Researchers say, for the first time, they've mapped the genetic code of a fetus. Dr. Eric Schadt of Mount Sinai School of Medicine speaks about how the medical breakthrough can be used to diagnose genetic disorders, and the ethical debates it could spur. “First and foremost there are going to be real medical benefits from this technology. In terms of the social implications and other issues, those are the discussions we should be having right now,” said Dr. Schadt. “At Mount Sinai we’re going to be among the first in the country to have a course where students get their genomes sequenced and they learn through that course how do you interpret that information, how do you handle it with others and what happens if you find out your risk of Alzheimer’s by the time you’re 50 is high?”
