Reuters - "Reuters Top 100: The World’s Most Innovative Universities 2017" - David Ewalt
To compile the 2017 ranking of the world’s most innovative universities, Clarivate Analytics identified more than 600 global organizations that publish academic research. They evaluated each candidate on 10 distinct metrics, including academic papers and patent filings. The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai ranked 52 on the list. Mount Sinai Innovation Partners has helped bring many discoveries to market, including the annuloplasty ring, a device for repairing heart valves. The half-million square-foot Leon and Norma Hess Center for Science and Medicine has scientists and physicians working together to encourage cross-disciplinary creativity and entrepreneurship. Mount Sinai spinout Cardea Sciences has developed a new way to categorize patients at risk for atrial fibrillation, the most common cardiac arrhythmia, and one that costs the United States an estimated $26 billion annually.
