Chief Executive Officer, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Health in Agenda 2030 and for Malaria
Suprotik (Protik) Basu is CEO of the Office of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Health in Agenda 2030 and for Malaria. He concurrently serves as CEO of the Global Health Alliance, an initiative to bring business leaders and business approaches into the effort to achieve the world's global health goals.
Prior to his appointment as CEO, Mr.Basu was Managing Director of the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Malaria, and joined that office at its inception in 2007.
From 2007 to 2011, he co-chaired the resource mobilization activities for the global Roll Back Malaria Partnership through its Harmonization Working Group, which attracted over US$3.5 billion in additional resources for malaria control efforts in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. He previously served as Public Health Specialist at the World Bank (2002-2007), where he provided implementation support for grants and interest-free loans across 18 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, and in India.
Mr.Basu serves on the boards of the Global Health Alliance, Big Win Philanthropy, the Global Business Coalition for Health, the Micronutrient Initiative, Princess House inc, and Brooklyn Defender Services. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from The Johns Hopkins University, and lives in New York City.
