New York magazine named 129 Mount Sinai physicians to its "Best Doctors" list, more than any individual hospital in New York City. The recent issue also lists 59 additional doctors who serve at hospitals within Mount Sinai's affiliate network.

The "Best Doctors" issue, which this year features a total of 1,160 physicians, appears in the June 11 print issue and is available online at The magazine also features interviews with some of Mount Sinai's distinguished 2012 graduates who describe the unique and challenging experience of being a medical student.

"The number of physicians on the 'Best Doctors' list both at Mount Sinai and our affiliate institutions is a testament to their unwavering commitment to treating the patients who require the most sophisticated and complex care," said Kenneth L. Davis, MD, President and CEO of The Mount Sinai Medical Center. "Our doctors offer comprehensive and personalized care that takes into consideration the environmental, social, and genetic factors that may influence treatment. It is a commitment to exceptional care that has earned us this recognition."

Mount Sinai physicians are featured in 48 of the 63 specialties reviewed in the magazine, including cardiac electrophysiology, cardiovascular disease, dermatology, gastroenterology, geriatric medicine, medical oncology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, pediatrics, psychiatry, surgery, thoracic and cardiac surgery, vascular surgery and urology.

Castle Connolly, a New York City research and information firm, determines the rankings based on a regional peer-review survey that asks thousands of medical professionals to nominate the physicians who, in their judgment, are the best in their field and related fields.

Castle Connolly tabulates the results, vets the nominee pool, and selects the top 10 percent of the region's physicians to be published in its annual guidebook, Top Doctors: New York Metro Area. For the past 15 years, Castle Connolly has been providing New York with a shorter version of this list for publication in the magazine.
