Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Neurology at Mount Sinai, committed to outstanding patient care, groundbreaking research, and training the next generation of academic neurologists and researchers.
Our acclaimed clinical and research centers provide interdisciplinary expertise in the care and study of hundreds of brain and nervous system disorders, including:
- Cerebrovascular disease and stroke
- Dizziness and balance disorders
- Headache and pain medicine
- Memory and cognitive health
- Multiple sclerosis
- NeuroAIDS and neuromuscular disease
- Parkinson’s disease and dystonia
The treatment of brain and nervous system disorders has improved dramatically over the past several years, and the pace of change is accelerating. Our department has played a significant part in this transformation, and our role has resulted in U.S. News & World Report recognizing us as a leading department of neurology.
As one of the highest ranked neurology departments in terms of NIH research funding, we are at the forefront of research on neurological disease and can bring the latest advances in treatment to our patients. Our physicians and neuroscientists have made enormous strides in basic and translational research, bringing forth medical advances that will change the course of neurological treatment.
Our department is committed to helping erase the artificial boundaries between specialties that can frustrate patients and researchers alike, in order to provide the teamwork required both for outstanding patient care and for research breakthroughs. Most of our clinical and research centers encompass the collaboration of multiple departments.
Since its founding more than a century ago, the Department of Neurology has made major contributions to patient care and research. We benefit from this great tradition, which now flourishes in an environment of cutting-edge care, training, and research. Our residents, fellows, medical students, and graduate students benefit from both outstanding faculty in allied departments and access to cutting-edge technology.
To our benefactors, we thank you for helping us provide and improve neurological treatment. To our trainees, we welcome you to join our journey to the neurological care of tomorrow. To our patients, our internationally recognized faculty is committed to providing you compassionate, state-of-the-art interdisciplinary care.
