Research Programs and Training Opportunities
Our faculty members participate in a number of pre- and postdoctoral training programs funded by the National Institutes of Health. At the predoctoral level, faculty members provide interdisciplinary training in:
- Pharmacology and systems biology
- Neuroscience
- Molecular, cellular, biochemical and developmental sciences
The department hosts the Predoctoral Integrated Training Program in Pharmacological Sciences which is funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. Pharmacology training grant activities include the PHARM Forum and yearly mini-retreats. The department is home to the Postdoctoral Training Program in the Pharmacology of Drugs of Abuse which is funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse. Faculty members are research faculty on other pre- and postdoctoral training grants from which trainees may derive support. Some trainees obtain individual research fellowships from national funding agencies such as the National Institutes of Health.
Our department hosts regular seminars, including a series on pharmacology and drug development, drug abuse research, and systems biology. Other departmental activities include research colloquia (Works in Progress), in which ongoing research for departmental laboratories is presented, and a departmental retreat for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and research associates.
The department is home to a National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) National Center for Systems Biology. The center brings together faculty from the department and other departments at Mount Sinai with faculty at sister institutions in the New York area to develop the field of systems pharmacology. More information about the Systems Biology Center New York (SBCNY) and its activities can be found at www.sbcny.org.
Links to additional research, education and training resources can be found on the Resources page of our departmental website.
