Adriana Giri, Ph.D.

Adriana Giri, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor and Joint Head of the Division of Virology, School of Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universidad Nacional de Rosario. She has described a new retrovirus in pygmy chimpanzees, STLV-II pan-p, related to the HTLV-II viruses and developed kinetic PCR based assays for HIV DNA and circular HIV-1 DNA in HIV infected individuals with undetectable viral loads. Her research activities currently focus on the study of HPV virological markers for cancer progression, incorporation of nucleic acid testing in Argentine blood banks, the biological meaning of circular HIV DNA and the importance of HPV infections in the development of cancer.
