Our Division of Geriatric Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai contributes to multifaceted medical training and education, provides a number of research opportunities, and offers inpatient and outpatient clinical care in geriatric psychiatry.
We are fully committed to making breakthroughs in our field, and to training the next generation of geriatric psychiatrists. It is critical that we continue to make swift advances in research into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of dementia and geriatric depression. Advances in this specialty are increasingly in demand as the population’s percentage of elderly grows and life expectancies increase. Our mission is more important than ever before—in New York, nationwide, and globally. We are leading the way in geriatric psychiatry, also known as psychogeriatrics or geropsychiatry.
While providing medical education to a wide range of healthcare trainees, we also offer diverse programs for the community. We are engaged in state-of-the-art clinical research in several psychiatric disorders. We always have a variety of research opportunities, from the laboratory to academic studies to clinical trials that eligible patients or trainees may participate in.
We run a 22-bed geriatric psychiatry service, and an outpatient clinic embedded within Geriatric Medicine. We also work closely with the Mount Sinai Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Service, part of the Mount Sinai Brain Stimulation Center of Excellence, which provides inpatient and outpatient care.
