
Medical Students and the Community
The Center for Multicultural and Community Affairs (CMCA) is actively involved in the East Harlem community by participating in and holding positions within community coalitions, consortia, and planning boards. Through its active and authentic community engagement efforts, CMCA serves as a bridge for medical students and faculty to work with local community partners on various community health activities, as well as serve as a resource for students interested in community service learning, community based participatory research, organizing community health events, connecting with specific community groups to share knowledge, information, and build relationships. Some of Mount Sinai's unique aspects of incorporating medical students' curriculum into the community and recognition include:

- MSSM Student Groups: The CMCA serves as the primary faculty advisor to several MSSM student groups and student-led programs including:

- REACHOUT Service Learning Program

- First Generation Scholars Program
- MedStart – MedStart Summer Enrichment Program is a one-week summer program designed to target East Harlem middle-school students (6-8th grade) who are interested in science and medicine or who would benefit from a more interactive approach to learning. To Contact Information:
