Getting To the "Heart" Of the Matter

The Mount Sinai Students for Equal Opportunity in Medicine (SEOM) offers MedDOCs (Medical Discovery of Careers).

This course will be taught at The Icahn School of Medicine by medical students.

The program will focus on the heart. Through lectures, small group activities and lab-like experiences, you will:

  • Learn the anatomy and physiology of the heart
  • Discuss the form and function of the heart
  • Participate in discussions about diseases of the heart and the cardiovascular system
  • See and touch real human hearts – both normal and diseased

You will have the opportunity to use a human simulator and learn some emergency medical techniques.

You will be required to give a PowerPoint presentation on some aspect of heart disease.

You cannot miss more than two classes in order to graduate.

By the end of this program, you will get to know almost everything there is to know about how the heart works and why it is the most amazing organ in the body.

Place: The Mount Sinai Medical Center – 12-60 in Annenberg Building
Dates: Once a week, from September 24th to November 19th
Time: 4:00pm – 5:30pm

We will meet every day on the 13th floor of the Annenberg Building at Icahn School of Medicine in Rooms 13-80 through 13-87. We will have large group wrap-ups in 12-60 from 5:10-5:30 on 9/24, 10/1, 10/15, 11/5, 11/19.

Graduation is in 12-60 and will feature student presentations, pizza, and stethoscopes for all graduating students.
