Verily Academic Partnership

At the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), we believe that diversity and innovation are the keys to our success, and the keys to a healthy future. By exposing our students to a rich variety of training opportunities and perspectives, we can better prepare you to meet the complex challenges of healthcare delivery, biomedical research, and advocacy. Our academic partnership with Verily (formerly known as Google Life Sciences) combines our top-tier medical education with advanced training from a company that is leading the field in breakthroughs in life sciences.

Medical Student Health Care Fellowship*

As an MD student at ISMMS, you have the incredible opportunity to apply for a two-year fellowship at Verily. The experience will begin following the third year of medical school, after which you will return to ISMMS to complete your final year. About one third of our MD students choose to pursue an in-depth scholarly activity between the third and fourth years of medical school. A Verily fellowship incorporates the research and development of innovative technological advances with a premier medical education.

*The Medical Student Health Care Fellowship at Verily will not be offered during the 2016-17 academic year. Contact the Admissions Office for more information.

Doctoral Program for MD/PhD Students*

You will be eligible to apply for a truly unique opportunity to complete your MD education at ISMMS and your thesis at Verily. A Principal Investigator (PI) or mentor at Verily will oversee your PhD work, while an ISMMS supervisor and thesis committee will guide you in your academic requirements for the degree. Upon defense of your thesis, you will return to ISMMS to complete your medical school curriculum.

Both training programs provide students with mentorship from some of the world’s most innovative scientists, at Google’s Mountain View, California, campus. This unique combination of training and education—from one of the country’s leading medical schools and one of its most cutting edge technology companies—will position our students to be the generation of physicians and physician-scientists who define the future of health care.  Will you be one of them?
