Master of Public Health

For students interested in organizational leadership, the Health Care Management track within the Master of Public Health program provides an opportunity for you to learn key competencies and skills to effectively manage operations and lead teams. You will learn strategic, ethical, and accountable management practices, human resource management and supervision, and finance and budgeting techniques. We teach you how to use quantitative tools for management accountability and cost-effective health care, and how to design, implement, and evaluate programs and projects.

Our curriculum is designed to teach you best practices across a variety of specializations. You will learn competency-based techniques for organizational development and organization behavior, including theory and application, team leadership, relationship building, collaboration and community orientation, and more.

Students in this concentration will develop skills and competencies to be successful in public health including:

Apply theories of organizational analysis, organizational behavior, or financial analysis to leading health organizations.
Design, implement, or manage cost-effective health projects.
Develop skills in team management, collaboration, or leadership to effect change at multiple levels.
Identify various health care payment methodologies for diverse at-risk populations.
Develop community partnerships within the context of sustainable service provision and evaluation.

The MPH degree requires the completion of a total of 45 credits, an applied practice experience, and a culminating experience. In addition to the general course requirements, students will take these concentration-specific courses:

Introduction to Policy and Management
Accounting and Budgeting for Public Health Administration
Organizational Behavior and Human Resources
Managed Care and Health Care Reform
Capstone Seminar in Health Care Management
