Teach the Teacher

The Teach the Teacher course at Mount Sinai’s Institute for Medical Education is a faculty development program held once a year to train faculty to implement, effectively teach, and sustain a teaching skills curriculum in their own departments. More than 60 faculty members from 11 institutions have participated thus far.

The program is designed to focus on implementation of the Resident Teaching Development Program (RTDP), a seven-hour resident teaching skills curriculum developed at Icahn School of Medicine. The core material includes Setting Goals, Teaching Theory and Techniques and Giving Feedback.

By participating in this program, faculty will have the tools to hold faculty development sessions for their colleagues as well. As a result of faculty participation in the Teach the Teacher course, every department at MSSM with a core clerkship has incorporated a resident as teacher course into their residency curriculum.

The two-day course is held in January or February each year. Space is limited to 10 faculty/year. Please contact Anna Horton at anna.horton@mssm.edu for more information and to register.
