Pediatric Primary Care Program B

Elective Opportunities

Through the electives program at Mount Sinai, residents have the opportunity to pursue research and other experiences at The Mount Sinai Hospital or any of its affiliates. This program is designed to give residents the opportunity to explore fields of interest as well as to provide competency in subspecialties that are of particular importance in pediatric practice. In addition to the large amount of student teaching conducted by individual department members, the Jack and Lucy Clark Department of Pediatrics at Icahn School of Medicine conducts numerous other courses and teaching functions that all residents are welcome to attend.

There are also ample opportunities at Mount Sinai for PL-2 and PL-3 residents to participate in Hospital-based research projects, grant applications, and publications in scholarly journals in areas such as asthma, Adolescent Medicine, primary care Pediatrics, breastfeeding promotion, immunization research, teen health programs, and child abuse. The Pediatrics Department is active in the growing areas of child health and advocacy and environmental health. Residents may elect to spend time at a school-based clinic or a Pediatric Primary Care private practice that provides the opportunity for clinical field work. They may also participate in Immunization, Health Education and Counseling, and Managed Care programs.
