Health Education Initiative
The Health Education Initiative is a program through which Mount Sinai students teach nutrition and exercise to local public elementary school students, specifically 4th and 5th graders. The program teaches how to make healthy lifestyle choices in a fun and interactive manner, and recommends lifestyle changes that are realistic and reasonable. It encourages students to reflect on their lifestyle habits and learn the tools to distinguish healthy from unhealthy. We hope that by targeting children at a formative age, we foster change in the East Harlem community. By teaching in local schools, we hope to inspire Mount Sinai students to become more educated about the topic and to learn how to promote healthy behaviors in the community.
