Dr. Daphne Simeon is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. After graduating from medical school and psychiatry residency at Columbia University in New York City, she completed an NIMH-sponsored research fellowship at Columbia University / New York State Psychiatric Institute. She is also a graduate of and on the Faculty of the Columbia Psychoanalytic Institute. In 1994 she joined the Mount Sinai School of Medicine Psychiatry faculty, where she served as Director of Medical Student Education until 2000. She has conducted extensive research in the field of dissociation, has received several grant awards, and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. She is internationally recognized as an expert in depersonalization disorder, and her book "Feeling Unreal: Depersonalization and the Loss of Self" was published in 2006 by Oxford University Press. Dr. Simeon's other area of expertise are the compulsive and impulsive disorders; she has treated patients, supervised, conducted research and published in this area for the past 15 years. She is currently Co-Director of Dr. Eric Hollander's Compulsive and Impulsive Disorders research program, as well as Clinical Director of the Center of Excellence for Compulsive and Impulsive Disorders (CECID). Dr. Simeon is also actively involved in teaching and supervising medical students and residents at various stages of their training.
