    Demetrius Pertsemlidis, MD, FACS The Bradley H. Jack Professor of Surgery Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Born and raised in Greece, Dr. Pertsemlidis earned his medical degree in Germany, graduation at the top of his class at the University of Hamburg. He came to the United States on a Fulbright travel scholarship for specialty training, completing his internship at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn and his surgical residency at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. He was a Guest Investigator at the Rockefeller University from 1966-1968 where he researched bile acid metabolism and gallstone formation, publishing one of the first articles on the relationship between use of estrogen and gallstone disease. He is currently The Bradley H. Jack Professor of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Attending Surgeon at The Mount Sinai Hospital. His clinical interests in the past 54 years have focused on the surgical treatment of adrenal diseases, biliary, and pancreatic. He has accumulated one of the largest personal experiences in the world in the surgical treatment of adrenal endocrine diseased. His expertise includes advanced laparoscopy and a large spectrum of surgical operations ranging from hernia repairs to the most complex gastrointestinal, biliary and pancreatic procedures. Dr. Pertsemlidis is certified by the American Board of Surgery, is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the American College of Gastroenterology, and is a decorated Korean War veteran, having been awarded in the American Bronze War, War Cross of Greece and United Nations Medal. He has lectured at numerous local, national and international meetings, medical schools and hospitals. He has published numerous articles in scientific journals and was co-editor of a textbook on Endocrine Surgery and principal editor of the second edition to be printed in 2016. Dr. Pertsemlidis was the recipient of the Jacob Medallion in 2005 and John Garlock Award in 2010. He won teaching award for students and residents in 1988, 1999 and 2009.
