Faiz Y. Bhora, MD, FACS is Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Mount Sinai Roosevelt and Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospitals. He is Director of Thoracic Surgical Oncology, Thoracic Surgery Research, Robotic Thoracic Surgery, and Co-Director of the Airway Center at Mount Sinai Health Systems. He is also Associate Program Director of General Surgery at Mount Sinai Roosevelt and Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospitals. He holds an academic appointment as Associate Professor of Surgery at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Bhora received his medical education at the Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan, General Surgery training at George Washington University Medical Center, Thoracic Surgery training at UCLA Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Thoracic Oncology Surgery at The University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Bhora's area of interest and specialty is Thoracic Oncology Surgery. He specializes in minimally invasive approaches to thoracic surgical diseases, especially thoracic cancer and in the use of the Da Vinci robot to perform minimally invasive thoracic surgery. He is nationally and internationally known for his expertise in advanced airway surgery, including airway stenting.
Dr. Bhora is actively involved in translational research and in resident and medical student education. He is Director of Thoracic Surgery Research and Director of the Thoracic Surgery/Robotics elective at the Icahn School of Medicine. He has mentored over one dozen post-doc fellows and nearly 100 medical students. He has authored several important publications and is regularly asked to present and lecture at national and international meetings. His current research is focused on regenerative medicine, including 3-D printing of the trachea and stem cells. His Lab is also actively investigating novel mutations with predictive response to chemotherapy and radiation in lung cancer.
Dr. Bhora is President of the New York General Thoracic Surgical Club, the premier general thoracic surgical society in the tri-state area. He is listed on all peer referenced best doctor lists including America’s Top Doctors, NY Magazine Top Doctors and New York Super Docs. In addition, he is featured in several Castle Connolly publications such as America’s Top Doctors, Top Doctors NY Metro Area and America’s Top Surgeons for Cancer.
