Biography

    Dr. Bernstein graduated from Columbia University with honors. He obtained his medical degree and received his Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery residency training at New York University and its affiliated hospitals. He completed a Pediatric Otolaryngology fellowship at Baylor's Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Dr. Bernstein returned to New York University Medical Center as a full-time faculty member and the Director of Pediatric Otolaryngology in 1998, where he held appointments in the Departments of Otolaryngology, Pediatrics, and Plastic Surgery. He expanded his practice to Westchester County in 2005 and to New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount SInai in 2009. Dr. Bernstein's practice spans the entire spectrum of pediatric otolaryngology with special interests in congenital malformations, airway disorders, sleep apnea, sinusitis and other common ENT infections. He is a recognized expert in the evaluation and management of children with craniofacial and cleft anomalies. He has authored numerous articles and chapters and he lectures nationally and internationally.

Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device and biotechnology companies to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their relationships with such companies.

Dr. Bernstein did not report having any of the following types of financial relationships with industry during 2015 and/or 2016: consulting, scientific advisory board, industry-sponsored lectures, service on Board of Directors, participation on industry-sponsored committees, equity ownership valued at greater than 5% of a publicly traded company or any value in a privately held company.
