Biography
Dr. Robin Varghese, Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, joined Mount Sinai in 2009. Working alongside Dr. David Adams and Dr. Paul Stelzer, he focuses on mitral valve repair, aortic valve and aortic root surgery. He has taken an interest in minimally invasive techniques for mitral valve sugery including small midline incision and right anterior thoracotomies. He also works in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit where he manages the cardiac surgical patients postoperatively providing a complete care package for patients during their hospital stay.
Dr. Varghese is focusing his research efforts on clinical outcomes in mitral valve repair and aortic root surgery. He is also an advocate of multi-arterial revascularization strategies for patients requiring coronary artery bypass grafting surgery.
Dr. Varghese has taken part in a number of medical mission trips to various countries including various parts of India and the Dominican Republic, working to provide care for those less fortunate.
He completed his medical school, and residency in cardiac surgery at the University of Western Ontario in Ontario, Canada. Board certified in cardiac surgery, he went on to complete a fellowship and become board certified in Critical Care Medicine at the same institution. Industry Relationships
Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device and biotechnology companies to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their relationships with such companies.
Dr. Varghese did not report having any of the following types of financial relationships with industry during 2012 and/or 2013: consulting, scientific advisory board, industry-sponsored lectures, service on Board of Directors, participation on industry-sponsored committees, equity ownership valued at greater than 5% of a publicly traded company or any value in a privately held company. Please note that this information may differ from information posted on corporate sites due to timing or classification differences.
