Biography

Rony Shimony, M.D., FACC is the Director of the Mount Sinai Heart and Vascular Center Midtown.  Dr. Shimony joined The Mount Sinai Cardiovascular Institute to develop the out-patient, Mount Sinai Heart and Vascular Center in midtown Manhattan.  He is a nationally and internationally recognized leading clinical cardiologist who brings over twenty years of experience in direct patient care and house-staff training.  Dr. Shimony has received numerous awards, including a Special Congressional Recognition for Outstanding and Valuable Service to the Community.  He has been listed in America’s Top Doctors each year from 1999-2014, and was listed in New York Magazine's Best Doctors issue in June 2012.

Dr. Shimony and his team specialize in complex cardiac cases; integrating all aspects of cardiovascular, vascular medicine, coronary CT Angiography, cardiac risk reduction, electrophysiology and device (ICD/Pacemaker) management, with approximately 1000 device visits per year.

The 7000 square foot out-patient center is equipped with state of the art technology that allows a one stop comprehensive visit with same day results.  The medical team includes experienced multi-board expert physicians, a nurse practitioner, registered vascular and echocardiography technicians.  In addition, the team works very closely with world renowned physicians representing a broad range of non-cardiac medical expertise, while coordinating all the sub-specialties for personalized care.

Dr. Shimony also has many years of experience in medical teaching and direct patient care in the Developing World.  He accompanies his wife in her nonprofit work with Global Goods Partners (www.globalgoodspartners.org) and provides medical training, direct patient care in communities throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America. He is also on the advisory board of the Arnhold Global Health Institute; a new institution-wide program at the Ichan School of Medicine dedicated to improving the health of people around the world.  Dr. Shimony is an active member of the European Society of Cardiology and the European Heart Rhythm Association.

The Mount Sinai Heart and Vascular center is particularly proud of our “Aspiring Physician Summer Internship Program, “which is offered yearly, for selected students as early as junior year of High School.
