- Dr. Atakent is an Assistant Professor affiliated with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He received his medical degree at Hacettepe School of medicine in Ankara, Turkey and then pursued a combined residency program in Public Health and Pediatrics within the same institution. After completing the residency program in public health and submitting his thesis “Chlorination of domestic waters in rural areas” he continued his residency in pediatrics and completed it at the New York Medical College. Following a fellowship training program in Neonatology, Dr. Atakent received the NRS Award to complete a master program in Epidemiology at Columbia University where he submitted his thesis “Neonatal stabilization score (NSS): a predictive auditing too of mortality outcome in transported newborns less than 1000 grams at birth”. Subsequently, Dr. Atakent continued his career as a Neonatologist at New York University Medical Center, NY and also served as the Deputy Director of the New York Infant Transport Service. He is now an attending physician in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Mount Sinai West and on one occasion has received the “Best Teacher Award” in Pediatrics.
