This study examines treatment effect of twelve months of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy; an empirically validated treatment approach for Borderline Personality Disorder that uses concepts from behaviorism and cognitive therapy. Effects on anger, aggression and emotional regulation will be recorded throughout the treatment trial. Subjects will complete a psychophysiological test that measures emotional processing before, at the mid-point and after the treatment and we will examine if treatment response is related to changes in this measure. Also, subjects will have their brains imaged with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) before they receive the treatment to see if particular patterns of brain activation predict a better response to the psychological treatment as well as after to examine if brain activation patterns change with successful treatment.
