The purpose of this research is to compare medical management to interventional therapy (with either endovascular treatment, neurosurgery, or radiotherapy) for the treatment of patients with unruptured (unbled) arteriovenous malformations (AVM) of the brain. What is not known is whether removing or closing-up brain AVMs in patients with brain AVMs that haven't bled will result in fewer strokes or death from this abnormality in the long term than leaving the AVM intact and just treating the medical symptoms. The study is sponsored by the NIH, it is being conducted in 100 hospitals around the world and 400 patients are needed to participate in this trial.
