The purpose of this trial is to learn if we can improve the outcomes for patients with esophageal cancer by using PET/CT scans to determine whether or not a particular chemotherapy regimen is showing any effect on the tumor.  The esophagus is the tube that runs from the mouth to the stomach.  Food passes down this tube to the stomach. Esophageal cancer is the growth of cancer cells in this tube.  We are trying to learn if PET/CT response can be used as a way to better direct therapy for your tumor.

You may qualify to take part in this research study because you have esophageal cancer that is limited to the local area around the esophagus.
