The purpose of this study is to assess the usefulness of pulse contour analysis (and derived parameters) in the assessment of the potential myocardial responsiveness to additional preload augmentation in the setting of cardiac surgery. This setting has been chosen due to the unique conditions of preload depletion which exist following cardiopulmonary bypass and the opportunity to incrementally reinstitute that preload under closely monitored conditions.
