The purpose of this community based longitudinal study is to explore and identify factors in the built environment, including exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals, that are associated with overweight and obesity in children. Diet, physical activity, access to health food and to physical activity resources are additional variables. Differences among children based on DNA analysis have also been analyzed. The study has mapped the food and physical activity resources of the East Harlem community using geocoding and has evaluated and analyzed differences in outcome measures based on proximity or distance from healthy food and physical activity resources.
