Description

If a patient's heart strength is decreased to a certain degree this may cause the patient to experience tiredness and shortness of breath. This condition called heart failure is usually treated with medications to improve the strength of the heart muscle and reduce the amount of work the heart has to do. However medications are not always successful in making heart failure patients feel better. An experimental medical device has been developed to improve heart strength using electrical signals applied to the heart. The experimental medical device is called the OPTIMIZER System. The experimental treatment delivered by the OPTIMIZER System for stimulating the heart muscle with an electrical signal is called cardiac contractility modulation (CCM) treatment.
