The Apheresis Center
By providing therapeutic apheresis (TA) and peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) collection services at the Mount Sinai Health System, the Apheresis Center is helping clinical teams treat patients and save lives every day.
Our Apheresis Center supports a number of highly active clinical services and programs at Mount Sinai, including Hematology / Oncology, Neurology, Bone Marrow / Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant, Solid Organ Transplantation (such as for heart, kidney, etc.), Nephrology, and Rheumatology.
Our Center is staffed with skilled apheresis physicians and nurses committed to providing the highest quality patient care. Quality Assurance Programs have been implemented to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, including those of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), The Joint Commission, the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), the American Society for Apheresis (ASFA), the Association of Advancing Transfusion and Cellular Therapies Worldwide (AABB), and the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
More than 700 procedures (including plasma exchange, red cell exchange, leukapheresis, photopheresis) and 271 collections were performed in 2011.
