Areas of Research

Below are listed the major active areas of research within the Department. Many researchers work across several areas, and this list is not all inclusive. The Department welcomes and encourages all forms of research.

Data Science, Informatics and Machine Learning

Application of artificial intelligence, machine learning and visual analytics techniques to the healthcare domain. Much work is done in partnership with the Institute for Personalized Medicine (IPM) and operationalized in cooperation with the Mount Sinai Health System Clinical Data Science team (CDS).

Perioperative Outcomes Research

The effect of pre-, intra-, and post-operative care on clinical outcomes for several decades. This work encompassed “big data” before the term was invented.
