Dr. Geer conducts studies investigating the metabolic syndrome, body composition and appetite in Cushing’s Disease. These prospective studies were initially supported by a CreFF award, and now are funded by an NIDDK K23 award. Patients with Cushing’s Disease are investigated before and after transsphenoidal surgery by Dr. Kalmon Post in order to characterize the effects of hypercortisolemia on body composition, adipokines, appetite hormones, and inflammatory markers.
Dr. Geer is also conducting studies investigating the prevalence of cardiac valvulopathies in hyperprolactinemic patients treated with chronic cabergoline; bone markers and bone marrow fat in patients with Cushing’s Disease; and the long-term risk of treated and untreated Cushing’s Disease.
