Early Excellence Awards are intended to support investigators who have demonstrated exceptional early accomplishment as independent investigators, permitting the expansion of their work into the field of asthma. There is particular interest in attracting investigators from outside the field to apply their expertise to the study of asthma. Prior research in asthma is not required. Investigators from within the field are eligible for awards, but they must demonstrate that their proposed work represents a departure from their current and past research.
Innovation and risk are strongly encouraged. Studies may involve laboratory or clinical investigation, including genetic and epidemiological studies, but the Foundation will not sponsor therapeutic trials. Sponsoring foundation will accept multiple proposals from one institution.

American Cancer Society/Canary Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships in the Early Detection of Cancer support development of strategies for the early detection of cancer. Research should be directed at new approaches to improve clinical methods for the detection of primary tumors and/or metastases, including but not limited to research focused in the following areas:
- Minimally invasive strategies for early detection
- Biomarker identification or discovery
- Imaging, including novel molecular imaging strategies
- Segmentation of early stage disease according to prognosis
The projects that will be funded are expected to have a direct impact on the early detection of cancer or to provide a clear conceptual or experimental foundation for the future development of methods for early detection. High risk, high return proposals will receive equal consideration. Foundation will accept multiple submissions from one institution.
