Cardiovascular Disease (Heart Disease)

Dr. Al-Kazaz is a cardiologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He joined the Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute in 2018. His focus is on providing comprehensive patient care with particular focus on valvular disease and medical education. He co-directs the cardiology teaching service. He interprets and performs echocardiograms, stress tests and attends on the inpatient services at the Mount Sinai Hospital.

He graduated from Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar with academic distinction. He also received the HBK University President’s award for outstanding performance in academics, research, leadership and community service. Afterwards, he finished his internal medicine residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center, serving as an assistant chief resident. He then completed his fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Mount Sinai (academic track), where he served as a chief fellow as well. He was a former Howard Hughes scholar. His research work focused on diabetes, anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation, and health promotion and preventive cardiology targeting children as they are a window of opportunity for health promotion and  potential approach to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease epidemic under mentorship of Dr. Valentin Fuster. He continues to clinically work with Dr. Fuster closely on many levels. He is involved in several clinical trials such as CATALYST and HORIZON trials.

He has been the recipient of numerous awards including East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership Excellence in Advocacy Award. Moreover, he revived several teaching awards including the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Best Speciality Attending teaching award in 2019 and the Service award from the Cardiovascular Insitute in 2021. Dr. Al-Kazaz has a great passion for medical education and is involved in several initiatives to improve the educational experience at Mount Sinai Heart. Dr. Al-Kazaz is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
