Shubhika Srivastava, MBBS
- PROFESSOR | Pediatrics
Specialties:Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology
Shubhika Srivastava, MBBS is Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology in the Jack and Lucy Clark Department of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Kravis Children's Hospital at Mount Sinai. She is a pediatric cardiologist with specific clinical, educational and research interests in fetal, pediatric and congenital echocardiography. Dr. Srivastava is the Director of the Non-Invasive Imaging Program at the Children’s Heart Center. The imaging program is a unique program that focuses on the care for the fetus through adulthood with cardiovascular disease. The fetal program performs over 2,400 fetal echocardiograms annually and is the only one of its kind in New York City that offers a comprehensive family-centered approach. The Fetal Heart to Heart Program is a unique peer-mentored program formed of families with children diagnosed with congenital heart disease in utero. The imaging program focuses on innovative ways to assess complex cardiac anatomy utilizing 3D and 4D imaging and 3D model printing and blood flow mapping to assess complex cardiac defects in order to improve outcomes.
We offer advanced functional imaging with myocardial deformation and flow vortex imaging to assess heart function with help of unique techniques that allow quantification of the squeeze of the heart muscle and efficiency of blood flow through the heart. These techniques are called deformation imaging which use tissue and blood speckle tracking respectively. We also offer transesophageal echocardiography in which we provide continuous monitoring by using a probe inserted into the food pipe (esophagus) that allows unobstructed continuous visualization of the heart to assess as the surgeon is doing surgery or there is an intervention being performed in the heart such as closure of a hole with help of a device.
Dr. Srivastava is recognized nationally as an educator and has been the President of the Pediatric Cardiology Training Program Society and chaired the publication of the guidelines for imaging training. She also serves on the American College of Cardiology scientific committee, the American Society of Echocardiography, and is an Executive Board member of the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography. Dr. Srivastava has authored over 75 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, review articles, and editorials. She has mentored many trainees who are now leaders in imaging programs across New York City and in other states across the country. She is on the editorial board of many high impact journals.
Dr. Srivastava has served as the President of the New York Pediatric Echocardiography Society, Co-Chair of Non-Invasive Imaging Training Guidelines Committee organizing a team representing leaders in the field of non-invasive imaging for corroborative effort designed to review and revise fellow training guidelines in imaging and Member of the Pediatric Heart Network - Marfan Trial Group and the Writing Committee. She continues to serve as Vice President of the Society of Pediatric Cardiology Training Program Directors.
Dr. Srivastava prides herself as a mother and wife who has two daughters, one of whom is working at Mount Sinai Hospital and is pursing higher education in healthcare delivery. Her extended family also includes the fellows and junior faculty she has mentored over the years.
