Susan Gross, MD, is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Medicine and the Medical Director of Reproductive Division of Sema4 Genomics molecular laboratories.


With specialty board certification in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Medical Genetics, Dr. Gross' professional focus has been the interface between genomic medicine and women's health throughout the life spectrum. She has worked on national and international guideline committees and has lectured and published on prenatal screening and genetic testing with a concentration on new technologies and public health policy. Her current interest is the underlying biologic mechanisms inherent in placental mosaicism and their impact on noninvasive circulating cell free fetal DNA.


Prior to joining Mount Sinai, Dr. Gross was a professor of Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics and Genetics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where she was Division Director of the Division of Reproductive Genetics for several years. Following her service as Chairperson of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the North Bronx Healthcare Network and founding the Human Genetics Laboratory at Jacobi Medical Center, she accepted the position of Chief Medical Officer of Natera Inc., a biotechnology company using SNP based technology for noninvasive prenatal screening and cancer detection. Dr. Gross received her MD from the University of Toronto, where she also trained in Obstetrics & Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine. She obtained her Medical Genetics education at the University of Tennessee, Memphis.
