Results of recent research studies suggest that genetic and biologic factors may greatly influence the development of personality. In order to help patients who have severe disturbances of personality, doctors need to know more about these factors. These studies are intended to explore and look at family, genetic, and biochemical influences on personality. In addition, new medication treatments will be tested out to see if specific medications can help patients with the social and/or work problems often connected to severe disturbances of personality.
