The purpose of this study is to examine how to help women undergoing a particular type of breast reconstruction after mastectomy (known as autologous breast reconstruction, or "flap surgery") manage any side-effects they might experience after surgery (e.g., pain, nausea, fatigue). Previous research has suggested that hypnosis techniques might help manage any discomfort or distress associated with flap surgery. Hypnosis is like focused concentration with relaxing words to help you manage post-surgical side effects like pain, nausea, and fatigue. This study is the first to look at whether hypnosis can be helpful after flap surgery.
