The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of two approaches (milieu therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy) to social skills interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). A child may qualify for participation in this study if s/he has an autism spectrum disorder and is between the ages of 8 and 11. The study will examine whether the different types of therapy result in differential responses to social stimuli presented during a brain scan, which will be done before, after, and 3 months after the end of a 12 week group.
