The Dean’s Committee on Special Awards (CoSA) is responsible for the dissemination, solicitation and selection of proposals for limited submission funding opportunities and awards for which new investigators, newly recruited faculty, postdoctoral fellows and senior faculty are eligible.
CoSA is composed of senior faculty who have the appropriate scientific expertise for critically evaluating research applications to determine the candidates who most likely will compete successfully for awards. In addition, CoSA has ad hoc subcommittees for Neuroscience (Eric Nestler, MD, PhD) and Cancer (Ramon Parsons, MD, PhD). CoSA assists faculty in the preparation of applications and letters of support required from the Dean. In addition, CoSA helps facilitate processing and submitting the application to the award sponsor.
Opportunities are posted through several email lists. To subscribe to the CoSA listservs,Select Research Services & Resources.
Current Opportunities
Email announcements to the Mount Sinai community of the limited submission opportunities are accompanied by the request for pre-proposal versions of applications whose deadline is usually 6 weeks prior to the funding agency’s deadline. The pre-proposals are then evaluated by CoSA. Based on the resultant ranking, the committee recommends applications to the Dean for his approval. In addition to ranking the candidates, feedback for improvement of their applications is given to all candidates. All applicants are notified of the outcome and provided reviewer comments, if any, on their applications.
If you have reason to believe a funding opportunity you are interested in is limited, and you do not see it on this list, please contact Cosa@mssm.edu
