Department of Ophthalmology

The Department of Ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai brings together top faculty and staff from The Mount Sinai Hospital and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, the nation’s oldest specialty hospital, to pioneer innovative research and diagnostic, medical, and surgical treatments of major eye diseases and vision science. We are at the forefront of developing groundbreaking diagnostic techniques and advanced therapies for many conditions, including glaucoma, retinal vascular disease, and macular degeneration. Our educational programs for ophthalmology residents and fellows continue to nurture future leaders in the field of ophthalmology, inspiring our trainees to become leaders in patient care, education, and vision research.

Our research collaborations extend beyond the Department of Ophthalmology to propel interdisciplinary discoveries. Through our partnerships with The Friedman Brain Institute, the Department of Genetics and Genomics, and the Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health, our researchers have made significant progress in understanding ocular stem cell and regenerative cell biology, ocular imaging and functional correlation, artificial intelligence and data science, and genetics/genomics of the eye. By integrating research, clinical expertise, and education, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing the highest quality, compassionate, and patient-centric care, as well as conducting leading-edge research and training and educating the next generation of leaders in eye care and research.
