Program Goals

The program is designed to expand the training of candidates who are training in related virology fields from both within and outside our institutions.

The specific aims of the program are (i) to recruit and provide rigorous training to high caliber students and fellows and (ii) to provide an administrative structure that will support and coordinate virology training between MSSM and NYUSOM. This program aids trainees in all phases of their development including understanding scientific method, interpretation of results, presentation of data and conclusions, research ethics, and career guidance.

This experience will be complemented by Bi-Annual Virus-Host Interactions Symposiums, participation in the core course of the multidisciplinary Ph.D. program, weekly journal club, weekly laboratory data sessions and departmental and institutional research conferences. The goal of this program is to provide the trainees with the necessary skills and training to transition to independent careers as research scientists.
