Message from the Chair
Eric J. Nestler, MD, PhD Nash Family Professor of Neuroscience, Chair of the Department of Neuroscience, and Director of the Friedman Brain Institute
"Mount Sinai's Fishberg Department of Neuroscience is today ranked No. 4 in the nation with respect to funding from the National Institutes of Health. This is just one measure of our national and international prominence, which we will develop still further in the years ahead by building world-class basic and translational research programs in neuroscience."
Mount Sinai's Fishberg Department of Neuroscience sponsors innovative research in basic and translational neuroscience at the molecular, cellular, systems, and behavioral levels. Our scientists perform groundbreaking research, mentor and train tomorrow's leaders in the field, and provide critical contributions to graduate and medical education at Icahn School of Medicine.
The Fishberg Department of Neuroscience is a major component of Mount Sinai's Friedman Brain Institute, the goal of which is to coordinate all neuroscience research on campus-both basic and clinical-and to build translational bridges to clinical treatment programs throughout Mount Sinai's affiliated hospitals and outpatient clinics.
The Neuroscience Training Program, represents one of eight multidisciplinary training areas in Mount Sinai's PhD and MD/PhD programs. Department of Neuroscience faculty members serve as preceptors for a wide range of research projects in neuroscience.
