Conferences

Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service Rounds: Trainees and attendings participate in formal "sit-down" rounds three times per week, during which time all active patient cases are reviewed.

Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service Walk Rounds: All members of the service participate in "walk rounds" once weekly, during which time a patient is interviewed by one of the attending or trainees on the team and discussed in great detail.

Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service Journal Club: The journal club convenes on a biweekly basis. Each resident or fellow selects a paper under the supervision of a faculty mentor who serves as the “expert” consultant for that particular journal club. Mentors are chosen from the consultation psychiatry service as well as the voluntary faculty. Journal club topics are expected to be relevant to the field of psychosomatic medicine. Each fellow presents four times during the year. The fellow also assists in coordinating the journal club.

Department of Psychiatry Grand Rounds: Grand rounds are given on a weekly basis year-round and consist of formal presentations, primarily by outside speakers, on the full range of psychiatric topics. Once a month a resident presents a case at a clinical case conference, which is followed with discussion by a faculty member.

Schwartz Rounds:The Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Adult Development at the Icahn School of Medicine began hosting the monthly Schwartz Center Rounds in February 2007. The Schwartz Center Rounds are unique, multidisciplinary sessions in which hospital staff explore the emotional side of caregiving. A national program with sites across the country, Schwartz Center Rounds are funded by the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center, a Boston-based nonprofit dedicated to advancing compassionate health care. In a typical rounds session, a panel of caregivers presents a patient case that brought up interesting and important psychosocial issues. Hospital staff members then share their own thoughts and feelings related to the topic.
