Didactics and Supervision
Both individual supervision and formal didactics compose the educational portion of the fellows' training.
Supervision
Fellows receive direct clinical supervision from one of the attendings on each presented case. This supervision consists of a joint patient interview and a subsequent discussion of the case. Fellows also receive two hours per week of individual supervision with Consultation Psychiatry attendings, meeting in the faculty member's office.
Didactics
Reading Seminar: Fellows participate in a reading seminar in which they read and discuss important papers from the field of psychosomatic medicine. Five to 10 papers are read and discussed each week.
Fellows' Lecture Series: Fellows attend a series of lectures designed for all psychiatry fellows at Mount Sinai. These lectures take place twice per month throughout the year on a rotating basis by faculty from the Psychosomatic Medicine, Addiction, and Geriatric Psychiatry services.
Other Seminars: We encourage fellows to attend the weekly geriatric medicine/geriatric psychiatry fellows' seminar as well as the fourth-year psychiatry residents' psycho-oncology course.
Research Fellows' Lecture Series: Fellows interested in research or in learning more about basic research methodology and principles are encouraged to participate in the weekly psychiatry research fellows' didactics.
