The Department of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine is pleased to announce the following new appointments in psychiatric education:
Marianne Goodman, MD, associate professor of psychiatry, has been appointed site director for the adult psychiatry residency training program at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center (JJPVA). Dr. Goodman has been a member of the department since 1999. She is now associated with the Mental Illness Research, Education & Clinical Center at the JJPVA and is well known to residents for her expertise in personality disorders, dialectical behavior therapy and suicide. Dr. Goodman will oversee all second and third year postgraduates in addition to students taking electives at the VA.
Antonia New, MD, associate professor in psychiatry, has been appointed director of medical student education in psychiatry. Dr. New joined the department in 1995, and has been involved in research, clinical care and education throughout her entire career. In her new role, she will be director of medical student education in psychiatry at Mount Sinai, running the psychiatry clerkship, as well as other experiences including elective opportunities and the psychiatry interest group.
Silvana Riggio, MD, professor of psychiatry and neurology, has been appointed site director for the psychosomatic medicine fellowship at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center. Dr. Riggio has been a member of the department since 1998, and directs the VA’s psychiatric consultation-liaison service. Dr. Riggio will oversee all psychosomatic medicine fellows who will begin rotating to the VA for six months on July 1, 2012.
