Department of Psychiatry

Welcome to the Department of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where we are transforming today's neuroscientific research into tomorrow's breakthrough clinical treatments. Read stories about our latest research and pioneering treatment programs in our annual report, and an overview of our department in our brochure.

Our department is one of the largest nationwide, and we are unrelenting in our commitment to advancing life-changing treatments for those suffering from neuropsychiatric illness. We offer an array of specialized diagnostic and treatment services for conditions from schizophrenia to treatment-resistant depression to postpartum depression and beyond. In collaboration with our hospitals (The Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Mount Sinai West, and Mount Sinai Morningside), we are renowned for our mental health care. We are ranked #6 in National Institutes of Health funding for psychiatry, and as such our research groups are at the forefront of unlocking the complex interactions between the biological processes of the brain and our behavior and emotions. Our residency program is one of the top in the nation, and our NIMH-supported Residency + PhD program is the first of its kind nationwide.
