The Department of Rehabilitation and Human Performance at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai investigates and treats a variety of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, and chronic conditions as well as spinal cord injuries and brain injuries. Our goal is to help people with disabilities maximize their self-sufficiency and mobility, so that they can return to their lives and community.
Our Department is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) in 17 programs across the continuum including Spinal Cord System of Care, Brain Injury, Stroke, Amputation Specialty Program, and Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Program (CIIRP). The Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Center is the only center in New York City accredited in all of these specialty areas, demonstrating our commitment and dedication to excellence in care for varied populations. The Mount Sinai Hospital is ranked No. 18 in the nation for Rehabilitation by U.S. News & World Report® for 2023-24.
We promote an interdisciplinary team approach, taking advantage of each discipline’s expertise to provide high-quality, coordinated care. As a trainee of the Department, you will work with our physicians, primary rehabilitation nurses, physical, occupational, and speech therapists, nutritionists, social workers, psychologists, and other counselors.
