MD Program

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) is a top-tier, highly selective school of medicine. We attract leading applicants from around the world, and carefully select those who not only have the strongest academic credentials, but who are committed to science in service to society.

Our goal is to train outstanding professionals who are prepared to enter the medical field as informed leaders and health care advocates, able to advance science and clinical care, and capable of promoting change.

We offer a variety of pathways for admission to the medical school.

Traditional

We participate in the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) of the Association of American Medical Colleges. You should file your AMCAS application no later than October 15 of the year preceding the one for which you wish to be admitted. We will require additional information from all applicants. If you are submitting an AMCAS application, we will contact you by email and direct you to a website where you can complete our online supplemental application.

You may submit a supplemental application from July 1 through November 15. The Icahn School of Medicine has a rolling admissions process. The earliest date of notification of acceptance is generally November 15. If you are admitted to the School, you must respond within two weeks after receipt of notification.

Early Assurance

FlexMed is the early assurance program at the Icahn School of Medicine. It offers early assurance of acceptance to college sophomores from any major, exempting you from most of the traditional pre-med science requirements and from taking the MCAT. If you are interested in FlexMed, you must apply during your sophomore year of college. FlexMed applications are not submitted through AMCAS.

Academic Partnerships

Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) has partnered with McKinsey & Company to create three new pathways for admissions to medical school, with special opportunities for ISMMS medical students and McKinsey analysts.

Dual Degrees for MDs

Applicants may choose to apply to one of our many dual degree programs to pursue a master's degree or PhD with your medical doctorate. (Those who have already earned an MD, you may also apply through the graduate school to the MPH, MD/PhD, and MD/MSCR programs.)
