Consultation Liaison Psychiatry

The Consultation Liaison Psychiatry service of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai provides psychiatric care for all medical inpatients of the Mount Sinai Health System and outpatients of the Corinne Goldsmith Multiple Sclerosis Center, the Recanati Miller Transplant Center, and the Jack Martin Fund Clinic for those living with HIV and AIDS. Our specialized group of psychiatrists works at the interface of psychiatry and medicine with clinical expertise in both psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacologic interventions, including a detailed understanding of the psychological reactions to illness.

Doctors have known for centuries that psychiatric factors contribute to mortality in the medically ill. Research confirms this body-mind connection by revealing a high comorbidity of medical and psychiatric illness, as well as the negative impact of psychiatric symptoms on both quality of life and illness outcomes in a wide variety of diseases. But our specialists are extraordinarily skilled at evaluating and relieving psychiatric illness in patients with all types of complex medical illnesses, such as cancer, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, lupus, traumatic brain injury, and postpartum depression.
