The Mount Sinai Health System enjoys a long history of excellence in patient care and scientific discoveries, and its Department of Medicine is one of the largest and most multidimensional academic training grounds in the country. We continue to create a dynamic department that excels in all areas and has an influence on health care policy and practice.
The remarkable students, who compete for placement in our program and the success of the residents after graduation, exemplify this status. Many of our former trainees hold leadership positions in academic medicine and our physicians are locally, nationally and internationally recognized as leaders in their fields.
In research, we received over $147 million from the National Institutes of Health, placing it in the top 15th among graduate medical departments in the country, according to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. Our faculty leads seven of the 14 interdisciplinary research institutes established by Dennis S. Charney, MD, Anne and Joel Ehrenkrantz Dean of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai to facilitate breakthroughs in science.
